Widow’s Friend is an early ripening apple variety with colourful, attractive fruit. It produces small to large pale yellow fruit with a bright red flush. The flesh is soft and juicy with a good sweet/sharp balance and nice strawberry aroma This variety is very well known in Northern Ireland, particularly around Co. Armagh.
Widow’s Friend apple is a lovely eating apple with a lovely strawberry aroma when ripe . Like most of the early varieties, this one is best eaten straight from the tree and has a fresh, fruity flavour.
