Description
Annie Elizabeth apple was raised by Samuel Greatorex at Avenue Road, Knighton, Leicester in about 1857 and named after his baby daughter who died in 1866. The original tree still grew at this address in 1970’s. It was introduced in about 1898. Annie Elizabeth fine, late-keeping cooking apple. It keeps its shape when cooked and has a sweet, light flavour needing little sugar. Highly esteemed as a Victorian stewing apple. Also useful as an exhibition apple and for table displays owing to its often great size. Hardy, attractive blossom and good general disease resistance this variety is highly recommended.
